Had an issue with item missing. Item was posted out and the set is a really good gift. Very happy now complete

This came beautifully packaged and looked like the perfect gift but there are no instructions included. It was a gift for my dad. He has emailed the contact given in the box, but without a response. Please can anyone advise how we get instructions?

I like the idea of making my own sauces with some chilli heat and this is a fairly good starter for ten, with a small recipe leaflet inside the box containing the instructions to make 8 different options:

    Peach, pineapple & habanero sauce
    Jalapeño hot sauce
    Chipotle sauce with sour cream
    Piri Piri sauce
    Peanut sauce
    Sweet Chipotle Barbecue sauce
    Green chilli oil
    Sambal Oelek

The box contains mostly dried whole chillies and jalapeño flakes, but also onion & garlic powder, paprika & oregano blend and a small bottle of apple cider vinegar. None of the contents of the box provide the complete ingredients for any of the recipes in the leaflet and you will need to have a comprehensive store cupboard to be able to make any of the sauces when this box arrives, unless you do a special shop. I have a reasonable stock of ingredients, but there was not a single one I could make straight away.

You do have three bottles to store the sauce you make, plus a funnel, gloves and labels. It is a reasonable mix of dried chillies, but I don’t understand why you would include the onion & garlic powder or the paprika & oregano powder and not the cumin, cinnamon stick or bay leaves that some recipes require.

It is a nice idea and a good range of chillies are included, as well as your bottling requirements. It is a pity there isn’t a single recipe you can make without buying more ingredients, but at least it covers the chilli part.

I adore chillis, hot sauce & peppers. Honestly I could drink them neat, so I jumped at the opportunity to try this chilli kit for free. Initial impressions were good: inside this kit you get three bottles, a funnel, labels, gloves, recipes, cider vinegar, an onion and garlic powder, a paprika and oregano blend, and of course….chillis! Lots of chillis! Some super hot, others milder. So far so good.
Now I knew when I was ordering this, that this was a chilli KIT and it required me to make the sauces. “No problem“ I thought as the blurb in the description said “ contains everything you need“ & “ anyone can make delicious hot Chili sauce.”. Then I started reading the book: “ you will need a blender, a saucepan, a grater, a sieve, jars, and a kitchen thermometer“ Hmm….. suddenly my interest began to wane slightly.
Then I started to read the recipe book- so let’s look at jalapeño hot sauce for example: in addition to the contents of this box I will also need four stems of fresh coriander, a piece of peeled ginger and a lime. Ok, not the most difficult ingredients to obtain but the whole thing was now definitely becoming a bit of a faff.
If you like experimenting in the kitchen , or enjoy playing with and fine-tuning recipes you’ll get a lot out of this kit. For me however, I would’ve preferred a selection of ready-made sauces. I accept I’m probably just lazy, but if, like me, you’d rather just buy a bottle of branded sauce for a couple of quid from your local supermarket than “carefully pour boiling water into the jalapeño pepper flakes and soak for 30 minutes, and then strain the soaked chilies before adding all the ingredients into a blender and blending until smooth “ then this kit is probably not for you.
Don’t get me wrong – there is full to be had here and as a gift this is absolutely superb, it’s just not a gift I would like to receive.

Bought this as a gift for my sister’s birthday and she says it’s great! Having the bottles have come in really handy and she can’t wait to make more.

  6. Bob

Nice looking kit with all you need to make hot sauce, not tried it yet as I have other things to do first (Pickling stuff) Presume you can get hold of more ingredients for a second batch from somewhere, either dried or fresh?

  7. Gary Hilton

Looks amazing. Haven’t yet tried although I think it is going to be amazing

  8. Pene

I bought this for my son in laws iron pallet! The spicier and hotter he loves it so this really hit the mark! If there was a down side it would be you definitely need a blender to chop the spices small enough – my daughter is thrilled with her new blender😂!
