I found it very difficult to know how to describe the flavour of this gin, so decided to compare, side by side, with a known standard; namely Gordon’s..
This first thing to note is the nose. This gin has a much stronger, and floral, nose than the Gordon’s. Whereas this Raasey is heavy and floral, by comparison, the Gordon’s is lighter and more spicy.
This impression doesn’t go away on tasting. The Gordon’s feels clean and spicy, whereas this Raasey is a much fuller floral flavour with overtones of red grapefruit. By comparison, the Gordon’s is more cloves.
This Raasey, also gives a much fuller flavour and fills the mouth and cheeks, whereas the Gordon’s is “cleaner” and gives a flavour more straight to the back if the mouth. This may sound a bit rambling, but I’m having real difficulty finding the language to describe the full blown flavour of this excellent gin.
I would probably say if you like your gin clean and smooth, then Gordon’s is the answer (in this comparison), whereas if you prefer a much more complex gin, then it has to be the Raasey.
Note that these tastings have been made drinking neatband your personal choice of tonic will definitely change the taste.
I hope you find these thoughts useful…

I have to comment on the appearance of this bottle to start with as it is absolutely beautiful. It arrives in a box that matches the design on the bottle with half of the box exposing the bottle inside. There are slight shimmers to the illustrations on the box and bottle that catch the light beautifully. You get an organic feel from the design with the textured look and feel of the bottle that matches the landscape of the Hebrides Islands where this drink is made.
The bottle has a cork which is perfect to keep the gin fresh and is easy to remove and replace. The flavour of the gin is very smooth on the palette, there is no bitterness to the flavour which is very enjoyable to drink. There is quite a citrus hit to the flavour profile which really comes through when you mix this gin with a nice tonic water and a slice of orange/lemon/lime.
This would make a beautiful gift to someone special, if you can manage to let it go, it is a stunning bottle that really does look fantastic to have on display.

I’m mostly a whisky drinker and drink gin as an occasional alternative. In some ways that can make it more of a treat. I mostly drink mainstream brands, preferring more conventional London gin to those overly flavoured with botanicals. I’ve read a lot about the recent boom in craft Scottish gins and this is my first experience.
First off, the bottle looks tremendous. The box is a little flimsy, but pretty and nicely designed. It is mostly intended to highlight the bottle, which is beautiful and imprinted with shells and fossils. Very elegant.
I like my gin with ice, lemon and only a splash of Fever Tree tonic. Now, I’m no gin expert with a sophisticated palate, but this is just delicious. Even at 46% and a splash of tonic it’s wonderfully smooth. The flavours are very sophisticated, and along with that traditional juniper flavour there’s a lovely citrus tang. The botanical flavours are very subtle, but there to be savoured along with the intense traditional gin flavour. A lovely, warming drink to be sipped and enjoyed, though I imagine it would also make a longer summer drink that would be refreshing and cleansing. Quite simply it’s far and away the nicest gin I’ve ever tasted.
As a first experience of a high-end craft Scottish gin, I can now see what all the fuss is about. In future
I shall be broadening my palate and trying more of these exceptional drinks alongside their equally wonderful malt cousins.

So the description states this is a:-
Isle of Raasay Hebridean gin ~ 70cl, 46% ABV. Handcrafted premium scottish award winning island gin. Distilled, infused and bottled at raasay distillery.
Glad this bottle came in one piece, the packaging was excellent.
The bottle itself and the presentation box is like a work of art on its own. It’s not a bottle that will be thrown away when empty, it will be pride of place on the garage bar shelf.
I’m definitely no pro but the main flavours I get from it is ~ fruity orange and rhubarb dry taste.
