This book was exactly what I hoped for. Gives very clear and interrestung history of coffee. Gives historical and current details from production to end product. Very interresting reading for someone just interrested to those wanting to get involved in the trade and considering a barista training course. Good buy.

This is an attractive coffee table book, and is probably loaded with esoteric information. I bought it for a family member and didn’t read it myself. Nice gift from her wish list.

A few weeks ago that I got my first coffee beans and learned to make pour over coffee. I’ve been fascinating with learning more and more about coffee ever since. This book has been a great resource for me.
I read it through from start to finish and I definitely learned a lot.
The photographs are beautifully done and give you that feel for being there in another place. It’s fascinating to see where the coffees sitting in your home came from.
One thing I found really useful is that this book is helping me decide which coffees to try next.
I currently buy my coffees online from a company that roasts them for you when you order them and ships them to you soon after. Knowing pretty much nothing about different coffees, makes it a bit hard to decide what to try next. The web site does tell me what country and region the coffee beans were grown in and what type of beans were used.
And now I can look them up in this book and learn more about them before deciding which coffee to buy.
I can look up the type of coffee and region they came from in this book, and it helps me decide if that coffee I am looking at is one I would really like, before buying.
I was happy to see that the one I ordered yesterday has Red Bourbon beans in it and that these beans are known to have a certain sweetness to them, for example. Having that kind of info in advance is really useful in helping me choose coffees I would like. So yes, I’d definitely recommend this book.

The author knows what he likes about coffee. This is a useful and well-written overview of what you need to know about buying and making coffee, well illustrated, and very much focused on quality Arabica beans – what makes them special, how and where they are grown, the effect of roasting and the flavours to look out for. Surprisingly readable!

After watching James Hoffman video’s on YouTube for the last couple of years, I thought it was time to purchase his book.
The book covers all aspects of coffee including brewing methods, brewing variables, coffee bean geography etc.
Anyone that has any interest in coffee should read this book, not only to read once, but to be picked up as a reference point throughout your coffee journey.
Highly recommend, 10/10.
If you’re buying as a gift, the recipient will not be disappointed.

Good summaries on the coffee varieties available across the world plus information on the how coffee is grown, harvested, dried, roasted and stored. The effect on end coffe taste of different processing at harvesting, drying, roasting, storage and brewing are discussed. Good guide for coffee nuts – not for those who think coffee starts and ends with Star***ks!
